Day 32: San Francisco Bay Area

Yesterday was another great day in the Bay Area. Sarat, Andrea, and I got kind of a late start. We were just hanging out at their place in the morning. Andrea had to deliver a subpoena, so Sarat and I waited for her. I had a chance to bond with Sarat and Andrea's cats, Pendelton (Penny) and Oliver (Ollie). Here are some photos of them:

They are much more relaxed than my cats, which isn't saying much, but I think they're pretty relaxed by any standards. Penny and Ollie don't really like to play and they're not very affectionate. It makes me miss Baxter and Daisy even more. They're a lot older than my cats. I think Ollie is twelve, and I forget how old Penny is, but he's definitely not a kitten. Penny was a stray that Sarat and Adrea's landlord brought to their complex from another complex. She had no intention of providing food or shelter for the cat, but figured it would get better care here than at the other place. I guess she was right, because Sarat and Andrea adopted him. Well at the time they thought Penny was a girl. It was confirmed by a vet and everything. Then years later, another vet discovered that Penny was actually Pendelton.

Sarat and Andrea went through this extensive grooming ritual with the cats. They brushed the cats' teeth, brushed their coats, clipped their nails, and Sarat even wiped off the cats' butts. It was so gross! Apparently they don't do a very good job cleaning themselves, so this is necessary. I think Sarat is enabling them. Cats are supposed to be self-cleaning. When I called him out on it, Sarat said, "I bet you're gonna put this in your blog, right?"

Yup.

After Andrea got home from serving her subpoena, we packed a picnic lunch and headed over to Golden Gate Park. We ate in the botanical gardens. According to the sign outside the gardens, everything is prohibited there.

I'm surprised it didn't also say "no breathing" and "no fun"! The funny thing is that we definitely saw people playing with their dogs, biking, playing soccer, and feeding squirrels. I can't even tell what it is you're not allowed to do in the two pictures before "no feeding squirrels", so maybe we saw people doing it and didn't even realize.

Andrea and I browsed some shops while Sarat napped in the park. Then we battled heinous traffic on the way home. I took my afternoon nap and then Andrea made really yummy fake chicken tacos. I normally don't like fake chicken, but this was really good. It was mushroom-based instead of soy-based, so I think that made a difference. The recipe came from this book called Mexican Everyday. It's by Rick Bayless, who won Top Chef Masters. I want to get that book. After dinner we went to Yogurt De-Lite for some dessert. It was okay. Nothing to write home about. It certainly was no Tangysweet. When we got home, we watched Family Guy and American Dad and went to bed.

Here are some photos I took before Sarat and Andrea left this morning:

Please keep in mind that I was awake for a total of five seconds before this picture was taken, hence my scary appearance.

I took this photo before Sarat had a chance to put on his shoes.

Gotta go now!
