Day 44: San Diego, CA

Thursday was another beautiful (and HOT) day in San Diego. When I tell you what I did on Thursday, you're probably going to think I sound like the least productive person in America. I had a spray tan appointment at 10:00 AM. I was not about to leave California without a sufficient tan and the sun had been very uncooperative during this trip, so I had no choice. I went to a salon that Laura recommended called Bella Tosca. It was very nice. After my tan I had lunch at Pei Wei. (my FAVORITE!) It's a faster, less expensive version of P.F. Chang's. They have it in Texas and apparently California too. It was as good as I remember it. Mmm...

After lunch I went home and took a nap. I woke up around 4:00, did laundry, and repacked my clothes. I was planning to go to hear a speaker at Laura's school, but that started at 4:30, so I didn't make it. Oops.

When Laura arrived home, she was covered in food. The caterer had given her a bunch of leftovers from the reception - brie, gorgonzola, goat cheese, fruit, etc. She was carrying the food on a tray and walking to her car and all of a sudden she bit it. The fruit and cheese was all in the bushes, a ramekin flew off the tray and smashed into a million pieces when it hit the ground. Poor Laura had food all over her, her finger was cut pretty badly, and her legs were bruised.

We had planned to go out with Justin that night, but one of Laura's friends had a baby that morning and Laura needed to babysit for her friend's other daughter so that the dad could stay at the hospital with his wife and new baby.

Laura and I picked up some Thai food and brought it over to her friend's place. I met her friend's older daughter, Olivia, who just started kindergarten at a French immersion school. She was very cute and recited the alphabet for me in French and English. It was very impressive. Olivia told me all about school, but seemed relatively unphased when I told her I was a first grade teacher. She then introduced me to her cats, Jamesson and something else - I don't remember. She got Jamesson for her 4th birthday. He was very tolerant of her affection. I have cute photos of Olivia and Jamesson, but I'll have to post them later because my computer is acting up right now.

After dinner I went to Justin's place. He lives right by Olivia and company in Ocean Beach. I met his girlfriend, Heather. We watched Dodgeball and hung out with Justin's neighbors, Dre, Matt, and Julio. Now we're all friends on Facebook. It was fun.
