Day 17: Missoula, MT to Leavenworth, WA

Hi!

I'm now at my friends' Zoe and Andre's house in Leavenworth, Washington. We're watching Annie with their daughter, Lucia (pronounced Lew-SEE-uh). I think Zoe and I are the most psyched about the movie. I know Zoe and Andre from Teach for America. Zoe was a 2000 Houston corps member and Andre was a 1999 corps member. After Zoe finished as a corps member, she became a Program Director for Teach for America in Houston, and she was actually my Program Director when I was in my second year of TFA. Zoe still works for TFA, designing and conducting training for Regional Executive Directors. Andre teaches 3rd grade in a dual-language program at an elementary school in Wenatchee, WA, and he's studying to become a Principal. It's so great to see them!

Leavenworth is hilarious. It's a fake Bavarian Village. I guess the idea is that the Cascade Mountains look like the Alps, so they wanted to make a town that looks like it belongs in Germany. It sounds incredibly cheesy, but it's actually pretty cute. We had dinner at South, a Latin-American fusion restaurant in town. It was delicious! Of course, being that this is a fake Bavarian town, in addition to Latin-American fare, they also have bratwurst. While we were waiting for our table, we browsed some of the local shops, which are mostly toy shops. Needless to say, I was in heaven. Actually we all were, but especially the adults.

I've gotta go to bed now, but I will write more tomorrow.

Word.
