Day 26: Portland, OR

I was so not thrilled when my alarm went off at 7:00 this morning, and I probably would've just turned it off and gone back to sleep except that I already wrote in my blog that I was going to go to the 7:30 yoga class. I'm glad that I went. I forgot how nice it is to get up early, when it's still chilly outside, and ride my bike while I'm still half asleep, and then workout and still have my whole day ahead of me. It was another good class with Anna. I really like her because she gives really specific instructions and then goes around the room and provides individual help. I wish I could take her home with me. She'd totally fit in my car. She's only about 5'1" and I'm almost positive she weighs less than 100 lbs. And she's really bendy, so she'd probably be able to squeeze in my car even if it was packed to the brim. Unfortunately, I think that would be considered kidnapping, and then if I got convicted I'd have to put that on job applications, and that'd be a tough one to explain. Perhaps I should just forget about that idea.

After yoga, I took a 3 hour nap. I've been sleeping a ridiculous amount on this trip. I guess I need it, but it's kind of excessive. I wonder if it's related to my medicine. It could be. I think I need a new endocrinologist. I don't like mine. I'll put that on my list of things to do tomorrow. Now that I've put it in my blog, I'll have to do it.

This afternoon I ran some errands and then went shopping on NW 23rd Street in the Alphabet District. All the streets are names of Simpsons characters. Actually, all of The Simpsons characters are named after streets in the Alphabet District, but since I was familiar with The Simpsons long before I knew what the Alphabet District was, I prefer to think of it the other way around.

From Wikipedia:
Several characters in Portland native Matt Groening's television show The Simpsons have names based on the alphabetically-named streets in the Northwest District: Ned Flanders, the bully Kearney, Reverend Lovejoy, Mayor Quimby, Milhouse Van Houten (actually in North Portland), and possibly C. Montgomery (also named for the large Montgomery Park (Formerly Montgomery Ward) sign) Burns[ide]. Contrary to popular belief, the character Sideshow Bob Terwilliger is not named after SW Terwilliger Boulevard in Southwest Portland.[3]

I had lunch at my favorite burrito place in America, Laughing Planet, on the corner of NW 21st and Lovejoy. I like Laughing Planet even better than Cali Tort (California Tortilla). Don't tell the Cali Tort people that, please.

Then I went shopping on SE Hawthorne Blvd.

Dave had shoulder surgery today and is recuperating at his parents' house, so Lisa went over there to see him. I didn't join her because I was planning on going to the gym tonight. Plus, I'm a little afraid to see Dave because he's refusing to take his pain meds. He's extremely conscious about what he puts into his body, so he had the doctors go through every medication they were planning to give him to make sure that he is given only what is absolutely necessary. I really admire the way Dave takes care of himself, but as someone who recently had surgery, I'm a big advocate of pain meds.

I didn't end up going to the gym. Instead I just vegged out at Lisa's. Anna isn't teaching a class tomorrow, so I'll go to the gym in the morning instead. And now I'll really go because I put it in my blog. Tomorrow afternoon I have an appointment for a haircut and highlights at the Aveda Institute Salon. The last time I went, they did such a good job. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll do a good job again tomorrow. If they don't, you'll be the first to know about it. Actually they'll be the first to know about it, but you'll hear about it soon after.

Time for bed now. G'night!
